With the GRACE AND PEACE FROM GOD You Have FIRM FOUNDATION

GRACE AND PEACE UNTO YOU

Farewell Message to Glad Tidings Tabernacle, Greer SC

Although our assignment at Glad Tidings is complete and they now have a permanent Pastor, this Blog will continue. This was my final message to the wonderful saints at that church and we will be in each other’s hearts forever. The Lord has a great future for that church and we are honored to have had a part in paving the way for the things God will be doing.

Ecclesiastes 7:8   The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

The theme I shared in several messages when I first started at Glad Tidings was on Grace and Peace unto you. The expression, Grace to you and peace” is used in eleven epistles in the New Testament. Such frequent repetition is worthy of lengthy meditation. The Lord knows how desperately we need these two in order to get through the realities of life on planet Earth.

Rev 1:4   John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come

Heb 4:16   Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace; that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

I have wonderfully watched many of you receive this grace as you’ve gone through some tough trials of life over the past year. There is something very powerful about grace, and something so wonderful about the fact that God wants to give it to us when we need it.

Peace starts with Jesus, the Prince of Peace,
Isa 9:6   For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The complete fulfillment of this verse is hard to see if you look at the condition of the world today. Let us ever remember that we have dual citizenship as born again believers. Though we may be Americans, our eternal citizenship is in the Kingdom of God.
Rom 14:17   for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Peace is a key attribute of the Kingdom of God, it is ours as we walk in the Holy Spirit.
Matthew Henry said:
What blessing it is which he pronounces on all the faithful in these churches: Grace and peace, holiness and comfort. Grace, that is, the good-will of God towards us and his good work in us; and peace, that is, the sweet evidence and assurance of this grace. There can be no true peace where there is not true grace; and, where grace goes before, peace will follow.

Philippians 4:5   Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6   Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7   and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I urge you to continue to yield to, continue to experience, God’s grace and peace no matter what life throws at you.

My wife reminded me that part of our call in life is to lay foundations. Looking back over the past year we’ve done that. I’ve always tried to bring spiritual truths down to where we live, where the rubber meets the road. You’ve been taught the 16 Fundamental Truths, exhorted to walk in the Spirit, to be a people who hear the voice of the Lord and walk in loving obedience to the Lover of our Souls.

Over the year you were taught those fundamentals of what we believe and the application of them to life. I taught on the Tabernacle in the Wilderness exemplifying our roles as priests and kings. We talked about worship as detailed in the 1st 7 chapters of Revelation. We talked about the gifts of the Spirit and God’s gifts of the 5 Fold ministries to the church. The love and respect you have demonstrated to Johanna and I are indicative that, as Melody once said, that you put what you are taught into practice. What a wow for a pastor to hear that.

I want to remind you of this prophetic message the Lord spoke to my heart about 4 years ago. At the time I was uncertain about the application so I just wrote it down. I ran across it a few months ago and saw how it applied to Glad Tidings and the rich history of revival in the church.

Dig wells for revival is coming. Dig wells for my glory will be poured out. Prepare your hearts for the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow. For sooner than you expect you shall find fulfillment says the Lord. Your dreams, your visions, and the desires I put in your heart shall come to pass. Dig wells for the river shall flow for a time and the rain of heaven shall fall for a time, so dig wells to contain it for a long time.
Clean out the hard drive between your ears and make room for wisdom and knowledge of the Lord.
Proverbs 11:30   “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise. “

In closing I exhort you to blend in with the new congregation, serve and love the new pastor as you have us. May there never be a distinction between those folks and y’all. You, plus all the Lord sends here, are Glad Tidings. Your roles will change but your servant hearts will grow.

Also, may desperation for real revival burn in your hearts. Those of you have experienced it in the past, like us, can’t stand the smoke.

Always desire the real stuff, not the fluff.

Finally, you are a rare and wonderful bunch and we will always love y’all. You, Glad Tidings, have a firm foundation and we know you will be a great blessing in the future. Y’all are just too deep in our hearts and always welcome in our home.

FREEDOM IS GOD’S OBJECTIVE FOR YOU.

Picture yourself at a 5 Star restaurant, all dressed up and at a very formal affair. Before getting eating the good meal, you will be served enjoy an appetizer that will take the edge off your hunger, allowing you to slow down and really enjoy the main course. This main course will get deep into your inner man and will take some chewing to get there. Start out with this sweet buttery appetizer of eternal value. If you take your time with this meal the Holy Spirit will change your life and equip you for many things in life.

Sit down and pick up the fork furthest to your left and the knife furthers to the right.
God’s intent for man, ever since the fall in the Garden, has been FREEDOM. No I am not referring to political or socio-economic freedom, but the freedom that is unaffected by circumstance, freedom that one can enjoy anywhere, anytime, under any circumstance. It is the freedom from sin and the eternal adverse effects of it. The following terms can take on incredible meaning in the light of the acceptance of who Jesus is and what He has done for you personally.
  •          Forgiven
  •          Salvation,
  •          Redemption,
  •          God’s infinite love,
  •          The joy of the Lord,
  •          A clean conscience,
  •          Not holding any grudges
  •          Able to love and stay patient
  •          No more skeletons in your closet
  •          Being comfortable in your own skin
  •          The peace that passes all understanding,

Now take a little water, a deep breath and pick the next fork and knife.
As Christians grow in the graces of this list they can become increasingly able to deal with confrontation in a way that Jesus would. OH, did I use a bad word?... Confrontation is an important part of life and we need to be able to deal with it correctly. If you live in a world with other people, imperfect people such as yourself, then conflicts will arise, differences of opinions, hurt feelings, offences, intense disagreements and perhaps horrific acts of violence. Imperfect people may, intentionally or not, hurt you or those you love. From the smallest incident, to the most horrendous, the list of attributes above is available to the Christian. It all boils down to two words that have immense implications, REPENTANCE and FORGIVENESS.

There are Biblical concepts that deal with repentance, strong words that our flesh may cringe to hear. The message of repentance has been preached since the beginning of time but still needs to resonate in the hearts of people. If you recognize that this message is spoken to mankind, through God’s servants, motivated by the love demonstrated at Calvary’s Cross, then it will do you good. I share the following in the hope that you will be provoked to ask the Lord to search your heart and show you where to apply it to yourself today.

Sarah was angry and said to Abraham, “… Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the
son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac” (Gen 21:10). You see, this amazing couple knew the promise the Lord made to Abraham of being the father of many nations. Now Sarah is past the age of getting pregnant and in desperation she gives her husband her servant girl to go make the baby with. This was not something the Lord indicated they should do, no, it was a futile attempt to accomplish God’s plan using the finite strength of the flesh. Some years later Sarah saw the fruit of this in Hagar’s bad attitude toward her miracle baby Isaac, and got really ticked off. Perhaps she was angry with herself for coming up with this bone headed course of action, and she was jealous of Hagar who bore Ishmael, her husband’s 1st baby.

The story has dramatic implications to humanity today. Abraham’s adulterous relationship with Hagar was a work of the flesh, something that could never accomplish God’s intent. The descendants of Isaac (the Jews) are still the enemies of the descendants of Ishmael, Hagar’s baby. Sarah’s dumb idea opened the door for Abraham and Hagar to give place to their physical attraction and lust for each other.

Gal. 5:19   When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20   idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
21   envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

As Sarah told her husband to “cast out the bondwoman and her son,” the Lord is telling His church to cast out the works of the flesh listed in the verses above. Tap into His grace to get the junk out of your life. Never again try to accomplish God’s intent in your own way either. The ramifications of yielding to those things may have very severe ramifications and stretch for generations. You can avoid a lot of junk by using God’s checklists in Gal. 5. The bad stuff in listed above, the good stuff follows:

Philippians 4:8   Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Thankfully the Bible makes it simpler still. When John the Baptist, and later Jesus, frequently used the phrase, “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand,” they didn’t follow it with a long list of what not to do. In John 16:7 and 8 we see that the Holy Spirit’s job is to bring the conviction of sin to an individual’s life. This Holy Spirit inspired conviction stirs a heart to Godly sorrow which brings repentance. The consequence of such real repentance is forgiveness. True FREEDOM comes to the believer in this process. It is all due to the work of forgiveness that Jesus did by allowing Himself to suffer the consequences of our sins. John 3:16 becomes a personal reality. On the other hand; the consequences of not casting the bondwoman and her son out of our lives is that the door opens to the enemy of your soul. The devil then demonstrates his evil intent in the destroyed lives we see in people around us, in the families so dysfunctional that friction between spouses ruins the lives of the children, in every other horrible manifestation of man’s inhumanity to man.

Digging a little deeper, the Word says,
1 John 2:15   Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16   For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
17   And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

The three things listed in verse 16 are a great guide to learning right from wrong. Every bit of bad stuff in all the realms of human behavior all falls into one of these three categories:
·         the lust of the flesh,
·         the lust of the eyes, and
·         the pride of life

How do we avoid those three broad categories of attitude and behavior?

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
If your enjoying this part of life, there’s less and less room in your heart for the two lusts in the list.

1 Pet.5:6   So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
2 Pet 3:   The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

When walking in these promises there’s no need for self exaltation, just trust God to get you where you need to be. This not only applies to career but any other thing selfish pride can mess up. Humility is your weapon against pride. We can be FREE from worrying and striving in our own futile, limited humanness to get there.

These two passages also bring us back to what I wrote earlier about confrontation. These are invaluable tools to dealing with the adversity caused by people, no matter what their intentions are. Before initiating or participating in the inevitable confrontation, “cast out the bondwoman and her son” from your life, let God root out the vestiges of the fleshly things in your life that distract you from walking in the Spirit. Only God can fulfill His promises to you personally so stop trying to make them happen. We can deal with the issues of life graciously because we can tap into the grace of God to do so. With the junk out of your way you are FREE TO LOVE and those on the other side of the table.

OK, it’s time for desert. You may use any silverware left at your place setting:
Think about the following verses in the context of repentance, forgiveness and seeing God accomplish His objectives in your life by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Psalm 24:3   Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
4   Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.
5   They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior.

Eph. 2:8   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9   Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Gal. 5:1   Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Grace is More Than…

Just as we didn’t save ourselves from the wages of sin, we cannot save ourselves from the stuff of life on earth. It is God’s grace by which we hear His Word in our hearts and receive the faith needed for salvation and everything thereafter. There are about 160 verses containing the word “grace.” There are so many angles to study this amazing gift from the Lord.

God’s GRACE is far more than “unmerited favor,” it is His power working in every aspect of the believer’s life.
Ephesians 2:7   That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9   Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Real life starts in verse 8 above, at salvation. We didn’t get saved by anything we did other than receive enough of God’s Grace to have the faith we needed to come the Jesus in the first place. Too many believers forget that this reality never stops, it is the source of God’s power for everything else we’ll need this side of eternity. Just as we didn’t save ourselves from the wages of sin, we cannot save ourselves from the stuff of life on earth.

There has long been great debate as to what the apostle Paul’s “thorn in the flesh was.” I don’t think we will ever know it conclusively. One theory I that I think is the most logical is that that thorn was continual hardship and persecution for the sake of the Gospel he was spreading widely. Paul’s response to this thorn is a beautiful description of how God’s power works in the believer’s life; and not just when in the severe circumstances Paul so often found himself in.
2 Corinthians 12:8   For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9   And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10   Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Whatever our need may be, whatever our situation is, good bad or indifferent, there is grace to face it, deal with it and grow beyond through it. This next verse fills me with the appreciation that whatever situation may come in my life I can face it graciously and with confidence in my God,
Hebrews 4:15   For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16   Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
If grace was simply unmerited favor, how could Paul have penned the two scriptures just quoted? There are so many amazing stories of brothers and sisters in Christ who endured hardships I thankfully cannot experientially comprehend. These stories are testimonies of people tapping into the grace of God and getting through horrendous things. It’s good to look at our own circumstances with the attitude that if they could get through that and still stand than our situation is a piece of cake.
On the other side of that coin, I’m a Jewish guy from Brooklyn, NY. I grew up on stories of the Holocaust, and of the pogroms in Czarist Russia. The mass murder, rape and torture, medical experimentation, starvation, etc. make me sick, knowing that these people did not know our Messiah and had little comprehension of the true character of God – how horrible it was I cannot fathom even after hearing their personal stories. The rabbi who trained me for Bar Mitsvah showed me a picture like this and asked me to find him in it.

Just think about how God’s grace is working in the lives of average people not going through such extreme circumstances. It was by God’s grace that we had the faith to accept Christ as Lord and Savior. It was God’s grace that we had the faith to accept the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. It is by God’s grace that we can experience the wonder of His Holy Presence in our midst. God’s grace takes us through the process of sanctification. It was by God’s grace that you knew that that wonderful person you are married to was God’s special gift to you. It was by God’s grace that you found the church body where you feel like you are part of that family, that special group of people who bless you and you can bless on a regular basis and you have a pastor with a heart after God. It is by God’s grace that we can pray for the sick with expectation of healing (Mark 16:18).

I hope this message has gotten you to realize that God has much more for His people than most understand are available. Learning to tap into the power of God’s grace is crucial so I plan on addressing that in the next blog. Although the picture below says much along that line.

LIVING THE PROCESS, RIDING ON CAMELS

Ps 42:7  Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and billows have gone over me. (NKJ)

THE CALL OF DEEP UNTO DEEP

By John Wright Follette
Down in the depth of my nature
Where the issues of life are born,
From that unknown mystical realm,
Surviving through ages of storm,
A call is forever rising--
But its language I cannot speak.
It was born ere I had being,

'Tis the call of deep unto deep.

Our mother tongue here is awkward,
For no words can fully express
The needs in the depths of nature,
In bondage to sin and distress.
Our hearts in their depths sorely ache;
They hunger; they call; and they seek--
Then silently wait an answer
To the call of deep unto deep.

Down deep in the heart of our God,
In mystical regions sublime,
In the Godhead's holy council
Long before our world or our time,
An answer was fully prepared
Every pain, every ache to meet,
In Christ, God's only begotten,
Is answer to deep unto deep.

The Answer indeed was the Word,
The Word when expressed was the Son.
Oh language of God how profound!
In answer what more could be done?
The heart of our God is hungry,
His portion, His people to seek.
"l thirst," was cried by the Answer-
'Tis the call of deep unto deep.

Sometimes I hear people pray things, or sing about things and I wonder, “Do they really understand what they are praying for? Do they have any idea of what would happen if the Lord answered that prayer?” My Pastor asked us how we would react if we saw a mighty angel, like Daniel did.

Another way to put this is, “How ready are you for the Lord to reveal things to you that are deeper in your heart than you really want Him to go?” Is the hunger and ache in your heart so great that you can ask God for more of Him?

What do we mean when we say we want more of God?
Is there a process He takes us through in order to give it to us?

There are 2 books I would recommend if you are serious in getting the full answers: “Hinds Feet in High Places” by Hannah Hurnard  and “The  Cost of Discipleship” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  Google them, I’m sure you can find them online.

There’s an old song, I hope some of you remember it. It’s the kind of song you may have learned in Sunday school. It is very simple, yet walking it out takes a lifetime. I hope it becomes one of those songs that gets stuck in your head.

I want more of Jesus
More and more and more.
I want more of Jesus than
I’ve ever had before.
I want more of His great love,
So rich and full and free.
I want more of Jesus so
I’ll give Him more of me.

Sounds simple enough but it ends with something that will take you the rest of your life on Earth to experience. Giving Him more of us equates to a lifestyle of repentance. Are you determined to make the right choices? Determined to always yield to righteousness? Sometimes it’s not so simple, we complicate it with works, with self-righteousness.

Rom 6:16  Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
17   But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
18   And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
19   I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. (NKJ)

Now don’t get in the flesh about this and start looking for things that you may need to repent of – please don’t fall into a quilt trip or legalism. Remember, Christianity is not a list of does and don’ts. It is a relationship with the Almighty and in that relationship we learn how to please the Lover of our souls. As you catch some glimpse of His character, as He reveals something about Himself to you, His love in your heart will motivate you to change and His Grace and the Holy Spirit that is in you will empower you to do so.

The Lord knows that in and of our limited, frail, human capacities there is no way we will completely follow through, we just can’t do it. We want to heed His call to pick up our cross and follow Him but usually want to do that on a cross we make ourselves, padded and not so uncomfortable and Calvary’s cross. The sooner you realize that the sooner you’ll learn of the freedom we have in Christ. Please do not strive in your flesh to be righteous – you’ll never measure up to His standards.

Now let’s get to those 2 questions I asked a little while ago,
1.    What do we mean when we say we want more of God?
2.    Is there a process He takes us through in order to give it to us?

As I already mentioned, sometimes I hear people pray things, or sing about things and I wonder, “Do they really understand what they are praying for? Do they have any idea of what would happen if the Lord answered that prayer?” Anyone ever prayed for patience?

When meditating on this my mind was flooded with so many songs we used to sing that were prayers for more of God.

“More love… more power… more of you in my life (2x)
And I will worship you
With all of my life.. etc etc.
Or do you remember...
“More of You, more of You
I’ve had it all but what I need is just more of you.
Of things I’ve had my fill
But yet I hunger still,
Thirsty & dry, Lord hear my cry
For just more of you.”

In order for us to be able to receive His answers to these prayers He puts us through a process, and it varies for each individual, it varies with time, it is unique for you. The Lord has a plan for your life and primarily it is to bring you closer to Himself, to cause you to become more like Jesus and ever more passionate for Him, appreciative of His Manifest Presence.

There are some great analogies in the Song of Solomon. Briefly,
Song of Solomon  5:2   I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying, "Open for me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one; for my head is covered with dew, my locks with the drops of the night."
3   I have taken off my robe; how can I put it on again? I have washed my feet; how can I defile them?
4   My beloved put his hand by the latch of the door, and my heart yearned for him.
5   I arose to open for my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with liquid myrrh, on the handles of the lock.
6   I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had turned away and was gone. My heart leaped up when he spoke. I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

The next verses in this chapter describe her desperate search throughout the city to find Him. She was too slow to respond, she made excuses to stay in bed.

Something happened in her heart between Chapter 5 & chapter 8. She went through a process. Notice she isn’t walking with Him, they are not skipping like a young couple just having fun and laughing together. Those times are wonderful but here she is leaning on Him. Her own strength is gone, she’s dependent on Him. The call of deep unto deep was answered – she’s different. Look at the change of heart and then we’ll talk about what the Lord does to bring this about.

Watch the center of her attention in the following 5 steps.

Song of Solomon 1:4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the     king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad       and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than       wine: the upright love thee. (KJV)

Believe me I would much rather remember God’s love, remember intimate times in His presence, even those times of correction, than the effects of too much wine. The Lord loves it when His kids get happy in His presence, when we rejoice with exceeding great joy.

But my friends, this is only the beginning. The intimacy, the fellowship with God that is available to us is far greater when we come back from that field, from that vacation in the villages with Him with our own strength gone, when we’ve let go of more of our carnal self. When we allow the Lord to go deeper into our inner man and replace the junk with some revelation of the deeper  things of His character.

What is it that God uses to bring us to this place of great freedom and blessing? Stuff that our flesh doesn’t usually enjoy:

Rom 5:1   Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2    through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
    3    And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
4   and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
5    Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our                   hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Our lives are constantly in the remaking process, we constantly exchange junk for pure gold. The Lord is preparing us for our marriage to His Son. How does the bride get to the Bridegroom? Look at Genesis 24, the story of Abraham’s servant going to get a bride for Isaac. In this story we can easily say that Abraham represents God the Father, Isaac the SON and the servant is the Holy Ghost. The servant doesn’t just walk across the vast desert, and he doesn’t go empty handed. In addition to beautiful things that will wet the Bride’s appetite, he brings 10 camels (Gen 24:10). She is given a means of transportation across that vast desert. In verse 11 we see that the servant, that is to say the Holy Ghost, is in control of the camels, he has them kneel.

The journey starts with her making a choice. We are constantly faced with choices and it is so important that our internal radio is tuned to the God Station. Rebecca chose to go with the servant.Let me quote more from Folette,
So let us not be foolish and pray for God to draw us          nearer and bring our hearts to sweet fellowship and        understanding of Isaac and then when He sends us a camel to carry us there want to shoot him. Never shoot your camels! What foolish creatures we are anyway!  With one breath we pray God to draw us near, conform us to His image, and deepen our lives in God, and with the next breath we shout at the camel He has sent to answer our prayer. Don't you remember it is tribulation that worketh patience and not a sweet feeling at an altar service?”

“The camels are awkward and not so very easy to ride. There is an art to it and the secret of it is this---move with the camel and do not try to resist his momentum. For that is already established, so all you have to do is to yield to the sway and movement of the camel and you will soon learn to ride. Never resist the camel's momentum, for if. you do it will make you sick and you will have a very hard time of it.

Let’s look at 1 of the camels, the person you really have a hard time loving, the one who just always gives you a hard time and is just impossible to get along with. You water this camel with a bad attitude. God sent this camel for you to ride, not for you to carry on your back. Get the right saddle out of the barn

What a neat thing happens when we repent of that pride and apprehend God’s enabling Grace. We handle the irritating things about that camel graciously and enjoy the ride toward our Isaac.

How about the camel that is a long, drawn out trial? The Lord has had me ride this camel all too often – a trial of faith and patience -  unemployment. Some people are caring for handicapped family members, dealing with severe financial and/or health siuations, or my amazing wife who has had to lovingly endure being married to me for all these years (39 as of this writing). There’s a saddle in the barn for this:

In the midst of that trial, we are called upon to give, and not just financially. When we apprehend the Grace to be a cheerful giver we will have an abundance of everything we need for every good work.

The caravan is large and we get to ride many different camels. The key is to apprehend His Grace to deal with each one with a right attitude. Don’t you want to get to the Lover of your soul? Of course you do. And not just to be in the same room but to be completely yielded to Him.

In conclusion I have to ask again, Do you really want more of God? Will you, as Rebecca did, say, “I will go.” Are you ready to ride those camels, choosing the right saddle for each one?
